Opportunity to train with IRB sevens referees
"Obviously fitness is one of the pillars of referee performance in a sevens tournament."
USA Rugby is offering an opportunity to take part in a training session with IRB sevens referees during the IRB Women’s Sevens World Series event coming up in Atlanta.
Through an application process, three to four people will be selected to train with the group of world-class international referees. The session will last about 90 minutes and will include a warm up, sprinting/running tasks and technical drills.
"Obviously fitness is one of the pillars of referee performance in a sevens tournament,” IRB Referee Development Consultant Bernd Gabbei said. “However, being fit in general might not be enough to perform. You can't referee for [two seven-minute halves] near your maximum heart rate (and still expect to be very accurate in your decision making) without training for specific elements of fitness that include quickness, speed and agility."
The training will be held from 10 -11:30 AM local time Thursday, Feb. 13, outside Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State University. Participants will be responsible for providing their own travel and accommodations while in Atlanta. The training itself will be covered at no charge to the participant. In order to apply for this great opportunity, please fill out and submit the following application. Deadline to apply is Feb. 4, 2014.
