About
"The UMass Men's Rugby Football Club (UMRFC) is a university club sport that competes with teams throughout the northeast. UMass Rugby enjoys a strong tradition of athletic success combined with a supportive alumni and campus community. The UMass Rugby team is a member of the East Coast Rugby Conference (ECRC) and competes annually with UAlbany, AIC, Boston College, Middlebury, Northeastern, Southern Connecticut, and UConn. We participate in Divison 1AA of USA Rugby college rugby. UMass Rugby is one of the fastest growing club sports at UMass. We have enjoyed success particularly in the past 5 years and are continuing to focus on improving every year."
"The University of Massachusetts Rugby Football Club was chartered in 1985 and has been competing continuously since then.
In 2009, Coach Al Baker led the squad to the Division II Final Four in Palo Alto, California. Unfortunately, UMass loss to Temple in the semi-finals. The following summer Coach Baker passed away from a short fight with cancer. The loss still affects the club today.
In 2010, the club moved into Division IAA competition and continues to seek out a National Championship. Driven by Coach Baker's vision, the club continues to play in his honor."
