About
"The Pacific University Rugby Club (PURC), also known as the Boxers, is a university club based on the promotion and enjoyment of the game of rugby at the college and in the surronding community. The club competes in the Pacific Northwest Small College Rugby Union PNWSCRU - which includes teams from Oregon as well as Washington. The PURC specifically competes with the following teams – Central Oregon Community College, Gonzaga University, Oregon Institute of Technology, Seattle University, University of Puget Sound, Whitman College, and Willamette University. The club competes throughout the year (both fall and spring seasons) and travels extensively. Although the PURC only began in the spring of 2011 – it is looking to build a strong culture of rugby and success at Pacific University in the coming years. Therefore, the team is working to make connections across campus and is looking for motivated rugby players who want to shape the teams future. If that you is you, please contact us! We enjoy strong university and athletic department support and play our games on the turf field at Lincoln Park Stadium, receive funding, and will be looking to play games at special events in the future. "
"Founded in 2011, the Pacific University Rugby Club has a short history, but it has grown much in that time. It started as an idea of a few Pacific undergraduates who had played in high school. They connected with a staff member at the university who they knew played for the ORSU Jesters in Portland. A little recruiting, a few games played in t-shirts, and a few well timed newspaper articles led to the university purchasing jerseys for the club and funding some of the clubs operations.
At this point, we have played many of the local area teams, including several D3 mens teams and continue to build relations with the local rugby community. We are working with the university to play a 7's style halftime show at the homecoming football game next year and also hope to play an exhibition match at the fabled Luau in the coming spring!
Come be a part of this new teams constantly forming history! We need you!"
