The Women's National Team was officially formed in 1987. The Women Eagles have been able to compete at the highest level right from the beginning. The USA has set the standard for international women's competition, leading an ensuing wave of women's rugby growth and game development worldwide.
The Eagles won the first official Women’s Rugby World Cup in 1991, and finished second in the two following World Cups (1994, 1998). At the 2006 Women's Rugby World Cup, the USA finished with a 4-1 record, which was a vast improvement from the 2002's seventh-place finish. Most recently the Eagles finished the 2010 Women's Rugby World Cup in 5th place, just behind New Zealand, England, Australia, and France.
