The USA Men’s National Team, nicknamed the Eagles, has a long and storied history. Gold medal winners in Olympic rugby in 1920 and 1924, the Eagles resumed playing international matches in the modern era in 1976 and compete against the top rugby nations in the world. The Eagles have qualified for every Rugby World Cup in history except for the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa.
Many of the Eagles are not full-time professionals and must juggle a day job and their international rugby careers. A number of Eagles are professionals and are well known the world over. Players like Todd Clever, Takudzwa Ngwenya, Chris Wyles, Mike MacDonald, and James Paterson have made a name for themselves and American rugby in the professional ranks all over the world.
The Eagles are currently ranked #17 in the world after an impressive showing at the 2011 Rugby World Cup. In the RWC, the USA lost to rugby giants Australia, Ireland, and Italy but earned respect for their gritty performances on the world's largest stage.
