Danny Barrett started playing rugby at 14 years old, following in the footsteps of his brothers. Also a High School football player, his rugby skills came naturally and were fully displayed in college at the University of California – Berkeley. There, he was a Collegiate All-American in both 7s and 15s.
In 2013, he joined the Men’s Selects (15s) for the Americas Rugby Championship 2013 -- then at the developmental level -- and went on to make his debut in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series at USA Sevens 2014 in Las Vegas. Later that year, Barrett earned his first cap with the Men’s National Team (15s) against Scotland in Houston and then went on to compete in Rugby World Cup England 2015. He started in all four World Cup matches.
Returning to Sevens, the athlete was named to the 2016-17 World Series Dream Team and capped off a remarkable string of performances by being named to Team USA’s roster for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. There, he scored 20 points in the USA’s five matches and continued to remain a consistent part of the sevens setup.
In 2018, Barrett helped his Eagles Sevens side win their first ever USA Sevens Gold medal on home soil; moving on to compete at Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 in his home region of Northern California.
