Fa'avesi is the youngest of seven children born to a family of rugby players. She played basketball growing up and focused on rugby at Luther Burbank High School, where the 2010 team won a championship. Upon graduation, Fa'avesi moved on to play with Sacramento Amazons for four years and was selected to a select/travel side in 2014. Fa'avesi was noticed by Women's Eagles Sevens Head Coach Ric Suggitt, who invited her to a development camp at the Olympic Training Center. She was subsequently selected to the opening round of the 2014-15 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series and was contracted following her return stateside. Fa'avesi was a member of the U.S. team that qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Summer Games at the 2015 NACRA Sevens Championships, won a silver medal with the team at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, and was named to the 12-player Team USA squad for Rugby Sevens' Olympic debut.
