USA Women's Sevens Prep for Hong Kong

BOULDER, Colo. - The USA Women's Sevens team has assembled at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. for a camp in preparation for the Cable and Wireless Worldwide Hong Kong Women's Sevens tournament on March 25.  The Women's Eagles will play Japan, Russia, Chinese Taipei, and rivals Canada in Pool B play.

The USA showed plenty of promise in last month's USA Women's International Tournament in Las Vegas, but were narrowly edged out by the Netherlands and Canada for a shot at the Cup.  The Eagles were always within striking distance of the Cup, and actually defeated Cup winners Canada 7-5 in pool play, but due to point differential, Canada went through to the finals.

The squad that USA Head Coach, Ric Suggitt, selected has plenty of talent and, with a few tweaks and adjustments, the Eagles can turn those narrow losses into wins.

"I'm really excited to see how this team will come together.  Five athletes have carried over from last month's Las Vegas squad and we've got very experienced athletes, such as Pam Kosanke, and exciting young players, like Ryan Carlyle, joining the group for Hong Kong," said Suggitt.

"We'll have a few days of good hard sessions at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista to work on some of the areas we identified for improvement in Las Vegas.  I am looking forward to seeing this mix of athletes mold into a cohesive and effective team for the Hong Kong tournament."

Experienced Eagle speedsters Victoria Folayan, Vanesha McGee, and Nathalie Marchino are fantastic on attack and can cause all kinds of problems for defenders.  Team chemistry can make the squad great, and they have the talent and personnel to make a very successful run in Hong Kong.
