BOULDER, Colo. - Matt Sherman, a former Eagle and All-American and current Director of Rugby at Stanford, has been named as the USA Rugby Men's Collegiate All-Americans (MCAAs) Head Coach.
Sherman has made a successful transition from player to coach since his retirement in 2005. He has served as backs coach for the Men's National Team from 2009-2011 and was also Director of the USA Rugby Men's Age-Grade Program during that time.

In his new role, Sherman will direct scouting and selection for the Men's Collegiate All-American program and serve as head coach of the Men's Collegiate All-American Touring Side. A supporting cast of experienced coaches will help Sherman coach, select players, and also scout new talent.
Arkansas State's head coach, Matt Huckaby, a former All-American, will join Sherman's staff as the forwards coach. Former USA standout center and current assistant coach at Davenport University, Phillip Eloff, has been named the backs coach. Craig Brown, Director of Men's Rugby at Western Washington will manage the MCAAs. Brown is an experienced team manager working previously with the Men's USA Select XV and Junior All-Americans/USA Under-20s.
As the All-Americans are a proven pathway to the senior national team, Sherman looks forward to contributing to the development of aspiring internationals.
"The Collegiate All-Americans have a proud tradition that extends over a century and I'm proud to be the coach of such a storied side. It's an honor to be working with some of the most talented college rugby players in the country and helping them hone their skills. My goal is to facilitate their development and prepare them for the next step of their journey in rugby," said Sherman.
Former Collegiate All-Americans include current Olympic Training Center resident athletes Colin Hawley, Zack Test, Rocco Mauer, Peter Tiberio, and Blaine Scully. Men's National Team stars Todd Clever, Louis Stanfill, Paul Emerick, Mike MacDonald, and Chris Biller also claim former All-American honors.
The list of the 2012 All-Americans will be announced following the conclusion of the collegiate season in May.
A select number of All-Americans will get a glance of what it's like to be an Eagle at a combine-style camp that will take place in late June in Houston in conjunction with the Men's National Team test match against Italy on June 23. That camp will serve as a trial for selection to the All-American Touring Side that will travel and compete later in the summer.
Details about the combine and the tour will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
