Youth Initiatives–Rugby Oregon Promotes Leadership

Rugby Oregon recently partnered with leaders in the industry to teach high school rugby players about leadership. There were two boy and two girl rugby players selected from each of the 58 co-ed high schools in Oregon to attend the Leadership Academy.

Each player was required to do some research prior to attending the program. When they arrived, the players worked on goal-setting, attended interactive courses and worked in small group settings to learn about leadership. Special guests in attendance included Mike Petri, USA Eagle Captain, Mike Tolkin, USA Men’s National Team Head Coach, and Danielle Miller, Junior Women’s All-American Head Coach.

The Leadership Academy also required players to develop a Leadership Action Plan. This includes their personal leadership goals and actions for the rugby season and how they plan to measure these goals. At the end of the season players will submit their plan to Rugby Oregon, who will then judge and award the winner with a significant prize.
