Payne embarks on expanded role at LIFE U

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Life University’s Director of Athletics, John Barrett, today announced Dan Payne, Director of Rugby, will be moving into an expanded role that will include overseeing additional sports outside of the current rugby program. In addition to his current responsibilities, Payne will be responsible for planning and implementing the startup of women’s varsity rugby and women’s varsity soccer in 2014 & 2015.

“Dan has been a huge contributor to the growth of the Athletic Department over the past five years, and we are asking him to cut back on his time working strictly with rugby in an effort to help grow our sport offerings and further develop our program,” said Barrett. “We have a bigger role in mind for him here, and that’s going to require more of his time.”

Payne is excited to continue to build on the energy and excitement surrounding athletics and the growing athletic department at Life University. The additional responsibilities and time required will cause him to leave his assistant coaching position with the U.S. Men’s National Team. “I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the coaches I’ve had the great experience working for. Mike Tolkin, and Eddie O’Sullivan before him, afforded me tremendous opportunities. I learned immensely from each of them, as well as the other staff members I was fortunate enough to work with. Most importantly, I have to thank the players I’ve had the privilege to work with over the past five years,” said Payne.

U.S. Men’s National Coach Mike Tolkin - “Dan has become a close friend and an excellent coach. He has superb motivational skills, great passion, and attention to detail, and those traits made him an extremely important part of our staff. I will miss working with him and our squad will certainly miss the enthusiasm and winning attitude he brought to the United States Eagles. I know he will continue to help to grow the game in this country to the best of his ability. I wish him the best.”
