Tolkin starts Lamositele, LaValla in London
LONDON, England – The starting roster for the Men’s Eagles’ match against Russia at Allianz Park Saturday, Nov. 23, has been announced, with prop Titi Lamositele earning his first starting cap.
Eagles Head Coach Mike Tolkin’s decision to start Lamositele alongside Nick Wallace and Phil Thiel in the front three means the Chuckanut Bay 18-year-old will be able to sign professional contracts abroad in the future. Lamositele has previously trained with Saracens, whose home ground will host Saturday’s match.
Chris Wyles has scored 13 tries for Saracens since 2008, but was in Georgia last weekend while his club played its final game before the international break. Wyles will start at fullback between wing Tim Maupin and Blaine Scully.
The Eagles defeated Georgia 25-23 for their first win in 2013 Saturday, Nov. 16. Adam Siddall kicked an added-time penalty goal and earned his second consecutive start at flyhalf for this weekend’s match.
In his first match with the team since the Rugby World Cup Qualifiers against Canada in August, Robbie Shaw will start at scrumhalf. Todd Clever will captain the team in London at blindside flanker alongside Scott LaValla, who missed the previous two matches of the November Tour.
No stranger to Allianz Park, Samu Manoa will get the start at lock alongside Tai Tuisamoa. Tuisamoa, along with a number of Eagles such as Wallace, Thiel, Dolan and Maupin, will be playing in his sixth match since October due to the 2013 IRB Americas Rugby Championship. The Eagles Select XV finished second behind Argentina with a 2-1 record, defeating Canada and Uruguay.
The Eagles fell just short to the New Zealand Maori All Blacks at PPL Park in Philadelphia, Penn., Nov 9. Leading 9-7 at the half and drawing to 22-19 with less than ten minutes remaining, the Eagles pleased a sold-out crowd and followed it up with the win against Georgia Saturday.
The match at Allianz Park will be the last before the Rugby World Cup Qualifier playoff against Uruguay in March 2014. Follow the Eagles on Twitter (@USARugby) for live updates from 10:00 A.M. ET Saturday, Nov. 23.
