Eagles lose out on trophy in Hong Kong

HONG KONG - The Men's Eagles Sevens were kept from the try zone for the second time on day three of Cathay Pacific / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, a 19-0 defeat to England in the tournament's Plate Final.

Mike Friday's squad claims 12 points from their campaign in the 2015-16 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series' seventh round heading into the inaugural leg in Singapore.

Dan Norton dotted down in-goal in the first minute of the match with a lengthy run through the gain line and into open space from his own half. The Eagles took a shot to level the match in the third minute with a kick down field but Norton was there to end the danger, keeping England's lead at 7-0.

The Eagles' defense hemmed England into its half for a bit in the middle of the first half before Ruaridh McConnochie gained midfield. He lined up Zack Test and drew the sweeper to him before offloading to James Rodwell for England's second try and 14-0 halftime lead. McConnochie rounded out the scoring in the 13th minute from a U.S. lineout, bringing the final score to 19-0.

Friday's crew will return to the pitch April 16 in Singapore, with the pools and fixtures to be released following the culmination of the Hong Kong tournament.
