Ebner joins Falcons at Howard Hinton Sevens

TOURS, France - While the Men's Eagles Sevens are finishing the 2015-16 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in London, the USA Falcons will be competing in the Howard Hinton Sevens tournament at Stade de la Vallée de Cher May 20-22.

Nate Ebner will suit up for Chris Brown's Falcons coming off of his first two appearances on the Sevens circuit. The New England Patriot went back to the game of rugby in March in an attempt to make the U.S.'s Rio 2016 Olympic Summer Games team, and scored two tries in one of his first matches at HSBC Singapore Sevens last month. Though he did not score in the Eagles' five matches in Paris this past weekend, Ebner will stay behind with Brown to lead the Falcons at Howard Hinton Sevens.

"Nate is going to Howard Hinton Sevens to play rugby, which he hasn't done much of for a long time," Brown, coach of the Falcons in their fourth competitive tournament of the 2015-16 season, said. "It was always part of his original plan. He will lead through his professionalism; however, he is there to do the fundamentals well and develop within our frameworks."

The Falcons' most recent assembly came in March at the Las Vegas Invitational in Nevada, where the Eagles were playing in the fifth leg of the Series. The developmental side won six matches on the way to the championship in the tournament's most elite bracket, led by the play of then-captain Peter Tiberio. Tiberio, as well as Vegas teammates Pat Blair, ConRoy Smith, Joey Sok, and Shalom Suniula, return to the Falcons this weekend.

Blair, Ebner, Will Holder, Aladdin Schirmer, Suniula, Tibero, and Stephen Tomasin bring Series experience to the squad, while All-American Tanner Barnes and Northeast Academy's Richard Kirkland will make their first appearances in Falcons jerseys at Stade de la Vallée de Cher. Holder will captain the squad in one of the final opportunities these athletes have of showing their match- and system-readiness prior to Rio 2016 selections.

"I'm sure they are all hungry to show their skill sets," Brown said, "but, ultimately, the better they work as a unit the easier it will be for them individually."

Pool C in Howard Hinton Sevens' "Challenge" bracket includes the Falcons, Tribe7s, Allemagne, IDF Sevens, and Seven Elite CBL.
