Nominations sought for College Congress Regional Representatives

LAFAYETTE, Colo. - The USA Rugby College Management Council is seeking nominations for USA Rugby Congress representatives from the Northeast, South, Southwest, and West competitive regions beginning this week through to the end of the month.

It is the responsibility of Congress Representatives to represent their regions in developing and implementing strategies related to the strategic plan, providing support for the USA Rugby Board of Directors and National Office staff, participating in USA Rugby committees, and serving as a liaison between the Board and the American rugby community. Elected Representatives serve a term of two years, with an additional term available to re-elected members.

"These elections and positions are important to all in the community--every division for men and women needs adequate representation," USA Rugby College Director Rich Cortez said. "We need forward-thinking individuals to represent their communities with passion and intelligence in order to further the growth of the college game."

Nominations may be submitted by conferences, independents, and individuals that are in good standing with USA Rugby and currently hold registration with a college team within the respective region. Nominees must also be members in good standing with USA Rugby, but do not need affiliation with a college team or conference. The qualifications required of both nominators and nominees ensure representation for both gender and competitive divisions, and the College Management Council will vet each to confirm qualifications based on experience, understanding of the collegiate landscape, perceived ability to represent all divisions, and for commitment to support USA Rugby and its college membership.

The number of nominations in each region will determine the number of candidates up for election, which will occur no later than Nov. 15, 2016. In-Conference, member teams will be polled to cast one vote apiece for nominees in their region, with the Conferences taking into account their members' votes to then vote for candidates.

The four regions not holding elections this year will do so in 2017. For more information on the nomination process, please contact Rich Cortez.
