U.S. Olympic Committee unveils Next Olympic Hopeful finalists

Scouting Camp opens Wednesday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, where eight athletes will be selected for national team training camps
Olympians John Daly, Sarah Hammer, Carlin Isles, and Lauryn Williams to serve as mentors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The United States Olympic Committee announced today that 91 athletes will be invited to participate in the finalist phase of Scouting Camp: The Next Olympic Hopeful, which will be held July 12-16 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

The program, supported by USOC partner 24 Hour Fitness, will further evaluate the athletes selected through online and in-person tryouts, putting them through intensive screening and sport-specific training while on campus. The OTC is the home of Olympic and Paralympic sport in the United States, and features world-class training facilities and access to USOC leaders in the field of sport medicine, science and psychology.

In addition to being evaluated by USOC and National Governing Body high performance sport staff, the selected athletes will also receive mentoring from four Team USA Olympians:

John Daly (skeleton): Two-time Olympian (2010, 2014); eight-time Intercontinental Cup medalist.
Sarah Hammer (track cycling): Three-time Olympian (2008, 2012, 2016); four-time Olympic silver medalist.
Carlin Isles (rugby): 2016 Olympian; former member of the Detroit Lions football team.
Lauryn Williams (bobsled, track and field): Four-time Olympian (2004, 2008, 2012, 2014); two-time track and field Olympic medalist and a silver medalist in bobsled.

Following the tryout, one male and one female athlete will be invited to join the national team camps for four sports - bobsled, skeleton, track cycling and rugby. The eight athletes who are selected will be eligible to receive financial, training and medical support as they prepare for the opportunity to compete at the Olympic Games in their identified sport.

In addition to receiving professional coaching, training and sport science services while residing at the OTC, the athlete experience and progress will be highlighted on Team USA social channels, and the entire program - along with announcement of the winners - will be featured on a two-hour broadcast premiering at 9 p.m. ET on Aug. 25 on NBCSN.

The 91-member roster of athletes invited to participate in the Next Olympic Hopeful competition features 47 male and 44 female participants representing 29 states. The in-person tryouts hosted by 24 Hour Fitness clubs around the country resulted in 16 athletes earning a ticket to the Olympic Training Center for the finalist phase of Scouting Camp: The Next Olympic Hopeful.
