Southern Region Wraps Up its Regular Season

Between Men’s D-II, Women’s D-II, and Men’s D-III, only five games were scheduled for Saturday, April 14 in the USA Rugby’s Southern Region.

Women's Division II:

Carolinas-Georgia

Only one women's match-up was played Saturday.  In this game, the Eno River Rage RFC overran the Southern Pines RFC 46 to 14.

As one of the Pines senior players put it, "[We only had] 15 players [and] no subs. The underdogs are [clearly] coming up in the rugby world."

Division II Men's:

True South
In Saturday's one True South match, the East's Nashville RFC  won its final regular season matrix match against the West's New Orleans pitch in Louisiana.  Despite (or possibly due to) the very wet weather conditions Saturday in New Orleans, Nashville came away with the 20  to 8  victory over New Orleans.

Division III Men's:

Georgia
Both of Saturday's Southern Region's Division III games took place in Georgia.

The Savannah Shamrocks capped off a perfect regular season following the club's 44 to 0 clobbering of the High Country RFC.

Finally, the Columbus (GA)/Fort Benning RFC obliterated the Athens Eagles in a 107 to 5 blowout.  Nevertheless, one of Athens' Eagles put his club's crushing defeat in perspective, saying that:

"Athens traveled with 14 players and lost one early on due to injury. We had to play four guys who were injured from the last couple of matches just to make the game happen. Columbus played a good match and took advantage of the overloads, as they should have. Congratulations to Columbus on a well-deserved win."
