The Mid-Atlantic’s Spring Season is Well and Truly Underway

In a busy week for the Mid-Atlantic Region there were over 25 games played.

Women's Division I
In the second leg of the Gold Cup this spring, the Mid-Atlantic swept the competition again in Detroit, Mich. Playing against the Midwest, NOVA and Raleigh crushed Chicago and Detroit by a combined score of 223-31. The first game of spring is Saturday as NOVA hosts the Pittsburgh Angels.

Women's Division II
Two games were played in DII as Doylestown and Phoenixville Whitehorse both won. Those two teams along with Harrisburg and Severn River will jockey for playoff seeding in the last three weeks of the season.

Women's Division III
Northeast Philadelphia and the Maryland Stingers locked up the #1 seeds in the DIII playoffs with victories over the weekend. Philadelphia obtained the #2 spot in the North after Lehigh Valley lost on Saturday. In the South, after Rappahannock beat Patuxent River, this coming Saturday's match between NOVA and Rappahannock will effectively determine the second spot for the postseason.

Men's Division I
With two weeks left in DI, the top four going to the postseason is basically set. Rocky Gorge beat the Washington Irish, 48-21, for its tenth win in a row and sits at the top of the table. Norfolk is only two points behind at 9-1 and will face Gorge on April 21st at home with the #1 seed at stake.

Pittsburgh is currently in third and plays its final match on Saturday against Norfolk. The team with the momentum is the Potomac Exiles who have won three straight to challenge the Harlequins for third but plays Gorge on Saturday. Schuylkill River's loss to Norfolk ended its postseason chances.

Men's Division II
Eight teams across three divisions qualify for the DII playoffs starting on April 28th. The top two seeds in the DI-B and DII-South have been wrapped up with Rocky Gorge, Norfolk, NOVA, and Raleigh securing bids.

The DII-North gets the remaining four entries with Doylestown leading the pack at 7-0, followed by Lancaster (6-1), Philadelphia-Whitemarsh (6-1), and Old Gaelic (5-2) in fourth. The final seeding for the North will be determined next week as Doylestown plays Old Gaelic and Philly-Whitemarsh is at Lancaster.

Men's Division III
After Virginia and James River secured their spots in the DIII playoffs in the fall for the South, the seeds in the North and Central will be decided on Saturday.

In the North, it looked like the Northeast Philadelphia Irish remained in first place by beating Wilkes-Barre, 20-19. However, it was found that the Irish played an ineligible player this were forced to forfeit the match. With the win, Wilkes-Barre will play for the North title and the NE Irish are out of the playoffs. Reading moved into second by beating Blackthorn, 67-15. On Saturday, the Wilkes-Barre plays Phoenixville Whitehorse for the #1 seed while Harrisburg versus Reading is win or go home for the third seed.

For the Central, North Bay is in first after beating Severn River and Western Suburbs dropped to second following its loss to the Washington Renegades. The two clubs will battle it out for the top spot and the Washington Irish have an opportunity to leapfrog Frederick if they can beat Severn River for the #3 seed.
