Red River Wraps Up Regular Season Play

A quiet weekend in the Red River as teams capped off their regular season, and tried to qualify for semifinals.

Men's Division II
Tulsa Rugby defeated Dallas Athletic 50-40 and finishes in second position in the north table. Donovan Richardson led the Tulsa attack scoring three tries. Including what proved to be the winning try score in the 68th minute.

Dallas Athletic would score first with a Nathan Hatton try in the first minute to take an early 5-0 lead. In the 5th minute, Tulsa would score what was the first of four tries in a six-minute span. Including one by Richardson to take a 24-5 lead.Dallas responded with two tries. The first in the 21st minute by Karl Tolar and the second by Joshua Love in the 26th minute.

Tulsa now led 24-15.

The teams traded tries in the 28th and 29th minutes brining the scoreboard to a 29-20 Tulsa lead. Minutes before the half-time break, Richardson scored another try and Joey Mano converted for a score. Tulsa led at the half 36-20.

Dallas struck first in the second half, Phillip Hughes scored to cut the Tulsa lead to 36-25.  In the 50th minute, Tulsa increased their lead 43-25, with a Taylor Watkins try and Mano conversion. The teams then traded tries and conversions in the 65th and 68th minutes.

Tulsa now held a 50-32 lead.

Dallas scored a try in the 70th minute, Paul Idibia scored both the try and the conversion cutting the Tulsa lead to 50-39. Brett Howard scored another try for Dallas and that would be last points scored by either team as the Dallas comeback fell short.

In a battle of teams in the bottom of the North table, Oklahoma City defeated the Dallas Harlequins D2 33-25. Oklahoma City takes fifth place in the division based on point differential.

Men's Division IV

Fort Worth Rugby D4 defeated the Tyler Hoplites 34-12. Fort Worth Rugby finishes on top of the D4 North standings jumping over second place Denton Rugby on the final match.

The West Houston Lions D4 defeated the Corpus Christi Dogfish 83-0. Neil Best led the Lions offense with three tries, one penalty kick and ten conversion scores. West Houston finishes second in the D4 South table, one point behind Houston Athletic D4.

Women's Division I:
The Austin Valkyries and the Dallas Harlequins ended their match 12-12 in the final match of the D1 schedule. The Dallas Harlequins pick up their first points of the season and the Valkyries finish in the top position of the table.
