World Rugby and HSBC Announce New Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 Partnership

HSBC confirmed as Official Banking Partner of Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018

With 50 days to go until the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018, World Rugby and World Rugby Sevens Series title partner HSBC today announced a new partnership which sees HSBC become the Official Banking Partner of the tournament taking place in San Francisco, on 20-22 July 2018.

The global partnership will see HSBC continue to support the growth of Rugby Sevens in North America, including the commissioning of a new documentary following the USA Sevens team titled 'The Pioneers'.

Rugby is growing rapidly throughout America and has been identified by World Rugby and HSBC as an important growth market for the game. Rugby has captured the imagination of sports fans across the US with recent Nielsen Research, conducted on behalf of World Rugby, finding the USA has the largest proportion of rugby fans globally with 33 million.

As the Official Banking Partner, HSBC branding will be present at the iconic San Francisco Giants Baseball Stadium AT&T Park, set to host three days of incredible Rugby Sevens action as 40 teams across both the men's and women's competitions battle it out for World Cup glory. A new innovative 'knock out' style tournament format will mean that teams must win every match to be crowned World Cup champions.

As a long-term supporter of Rugby Sevens, HSBC is committed to working alongside World Rugby to achieve their shared goal of growing the sport and its audience. HSBC has been instrumental in supporting the development of the Sevens Series which has continued to grow and expand its fanbase significantly.

Through its sponsorship of the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018, HSBC is committed to ensuring the tournament acts as a platform for growth in North America.

A key component of maximising this opportunity is introducing new audiences to the sport through the unique individuals and stories found in Rugby Sevens. HSBC has commissioned 'The Pioneers', an exclusive 'access-all-areas' documentary tracking the highs, the lows and personal stories behind the USA team. The ambition of the film is to attract new fans of the sport and the team in North America, setting the sport up for long-term success.
