Club 7s Season Kicks Off This Weekend with

Nashville gets the 7s season into full swing this weekend as teams compete for an place in the USA Rugby Club 7s National Championships.

Lafayette, CO.- XVs has left the building and this weekend 7s takes its place, as teams in the south compete in the Music City 7s Rugby Tournament. In total 23 teams from across the Southern competitive region will be competing in the first of two tournaments as teams attempt to book their place in the 2018 Club 7s National Championships. There will be nine men's teams and eight women's teams competing for the coveted position, with 7 social clubs making their way to the tournament as well.

The men's division will be highlighted by the return of the South's two representatives in last year's national championships, Charlotte Rugby 7s and Optimus Rugby 7s. In what is always a strong field, the competitiveness will be kicked up a notch as this year there is only one spot available via the south. There will be three pools of three in the men's division. If Optimus and Charlotte both live up to their potential and replicate the results that got them into nationals last year they will meet in the championship match, which would be an exhilarating match to say the least.

In the women's division, it will be a tightly fought contest likely between three teams. The favorite heading into the weekend will be Orlando Rugby Club, who are the only team in the women's division that made it on to the national stage last year. They will be facing stiff competition from both, Optimus and Charlotte. Both of these teams are still relatively new programs for women's 7s, but Optimus being a select side, and Charlotte having just won the Division II National Championship will be stiff opposition. Both Charlotte and Orlando will both be playing in pool A, the winner of that pool will likely be favorite to carry home the silverware at the end of the day.

New Orleans, last year's open division champion, heads the social division this year. They will be joined by the likes of Chattanooga and Ashville Rugby. In what is a nearly impossible competition to pick New Orleans will be the favorite given last year's result, but expect a tightly fought division from start to finish.
