Dallas Dominates the Red River Qualifier

Dallas shows extraordinary depth as both A-Side and B-Side find their ways into the championship game of the first Red River Region Qualifier.

The Red River Rugby Conference 7's Qualifier Series kicked off Saturday with the Bloodfest 7s Rugby Tournament at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Austin, Texas.

In the first round of play there were both competitive matches as well as some blowouts. The Woodlands edged out the West Houston side 17-12.The Quins playing from Dallas took down HARC 19-17. Another Dallas squad Dallas Reds "B', defeated San Antonio 45-5, while NOLA got a 60-0 victory over Little Rock.

The second set of games were less competitive as The Reds picked up a 36-0 victory over The Woodlands. HUNS gave HARC their second loss of the day with a 58-0 win. Little Rock went down for the second time with a 45-0 loss to Austin RFC. The only close match of the round was a 17-5 Dallas Reds "B" win over the Phantoms.

In quarter final play the Dallas Reds "B" defeated Austin RFC.  The Austin Huns got a victory over The Woodlands 22-14. NOLA got another convincing win, this time over the Phantoms 38-10. The final match saw the Reds get a win over Dallas rival the Quins 24-12.

Down to the final four teams, the semi-finals saw the Reds defeat the host squad Austin Huns, while the Dallas Reds "B" side defeated NOLA 10-0, setting up an all Red final.

The final was a one-sided affair as the Reds defeated the Dallas Reds "B" side 28-0 to win the tournament and sit atop the Red River Rugby Conference 7s standings with 6 points. Per the Dallas Rugby Football Club's Facebook page they said that it was a wonderful day of Dallas Reds rugby that featured camaraderie and much support from each other.

On the women's side after pool play, Rocky Mountain (2-0-1) sHARCs (3-0) American Rugby Pro Blue (2-1) and American Rugby Pro White (2-1) advanced to the semi-finals.

The APRTC squads met up in one semi-final with the Blue squad advancing over the White squad.

Rocky Mountain then avenged a pool-play defeat versus the sHARCs to advance to the final.

 The American Pro Rugby Training Center "Blue" squad defeated the Rocky Mountain 7s side to take the women's top spot along with a cash prize of $1,000.

The next Red River Rugby Qualifier will be July 14th at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma.

The tournament is also used as a fundraiser for We Are Blood, and the team that had the most blood donors were the Austin Valkyries with a total of nine blood donors.

Bloodfest is in its 21st year and featured seven different divisions.
