Ahead of the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco Official Banking Partner HSBC reveals behind-the-scenes documentary aimed at growing Rugby Sevens in the USA

HSBC, Official Banking Partner of the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018, today released episode one of its ground-breaking two-part documentaries 'The Pioneers'. With just days to go until San Francisco welcomes the world's best Rugby Sevens players, the documentary tells the story of the USA Men's Sevens team aiming to win it all on home soil.

The documentary will air in full on the NBC Sports Network and The Olympic Channel in the States as well as across HSBC, USA Rugby and World Rugby social media channels. The 55-minute, two-part documentary follows the team through the 2018 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, their preparations for the Rugby World Cup Sevens, the tournament in San Francisco and then the reaction to the result.

HSBC has commissioned the piece as part of its long-term partnership with Rugby Sevens built on HSBC and World Rugby's shared goal of supporting the growth of the sport worldwide. The USA is a vital growth market for Rugby Sevens; a sporting powerhouse with the potential to stimulate a chain reaction of support. HSBC's ambition with The Pioneers is to create a story that can attract new fans in the States and set the sport up to take a giant leap forward.

The way that a team full of diverse characters and stories comes together to overcome the odds is truly inspiring. In commissioning The Pioneers, we wanted to tell this story, but also to give the US public a new set of sporting heroes to get behind ahead of the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco. Our partnership with World Rugby continues to see Rugby Sevens thrive across the world, and we think The Pioneers can take this growth to even bigger and better levels."

Mike Friday, Head Coach of the USA men's Sevens Team said: "We are thankful for the opportunity to share with the American sporting public the values, spirit and characters of rugby and our team; as well as the excitement and exhilaration the game itself brings as we the make this journey. We are proud of everything these boys do as they strive to be the best version of themselves when representing USA and rugby."

Ross Young, Interim Chief Executive Officer at USA Rugby said: "This is an incredible opportunity for American rugby as both current and aspiring fans alike are given a unique perspective into what it means to be a USA Eagle.
