Barbarians Prevail in Nail-Biter at Denver City 7s

After their last qualifier was rained out, it was all to play for in the Frontier Region.

Commerce City, CO- Frontier Region Men's qualifying wrapped up this weekend, at the Denver 7s tournament at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. It was the Denver Barbarians who were able to escape a tightly fought championship match against Bulldog Rugby to walk away with both the title and the number one seed heading into nationals.

Qualification all came down to this weekend, after their qualifying season had been cut a tournament short, due to severe weather at the Heartland 7s tournament in Kansas City two weeks ago. Going into the final tournament the Barbarians were in pole position, with Bulldog and the Kansas City Blues right behind them.

The three favorites made it through the pool stages to set up an intense finish for the seedings in New York. It was Bulldog that prevailed over the Barbarians second side in the first semifinal where they would face the Barbarians first side after they were able to put away the Blues.

In a sign of great depth, the Denver Barbarians second side was able to see of the Blues and take out third place at the tournament. The Blues, due to their impressive results earlier in the season, had done enough to secure the third seed. The order of the first two seeds would come down to the winner of the Barbarians, Bulldog game. It was always going to be a tight encounter, and in the end it was a missed conversion that was the difference between the two teams. Barbarians winning the tournament and the number one seed 21-19.
