Men’s Collegiate All-Americans Conclude Selection Camp with 55-10 Victory over Glendale Raptors

1st, 2nd and 3rd Team All-Americans named

GLENDALE, CO. - The Men's Collegiate All-Americans have concluded their eight-day selection camp with a thrilling 55-10 victory over the Glendale Raptors. Contested at Infinity Park, the All-Americans displayed a dominant performance from the very beginning, making precise offloads, managing space and scoring try after try to showcase the bright future of American rugby.

Standout Harley Wheeler emerged with four tries in tonight's well-earned feat, sealing his position as Man of the Match and adding to his Dream Team selection from the recent Club 7s National Championships.

The All-Americans came out strong, scoring three tries within the first 15-minutes to take an early lead over the Raptors. Two more tries would follow, after which the Raptors would claim one for themselves before both teams were sent to their halftime break. When play resumed, the All-Americans continued to expose mistakes in their opposition. They claimed three more tries, giving up only one, and concluded their week-long program on a high note.

Following the match, USA Rugby named 1st Team All-Americans in a special presentation, showcased LIVE on Facebook, after which 2nd and 3rd Team All-Americans were named, as well. James Willocks -- Head Coach of the Men's Collegiate All-Americans -- was proud of his squad for both their performance tonight and commitment to a rigorous selection process.

After four initial days of training and trial games, an original group of 80 All-American candidates was filtered down to a Top-30 with six athletes coming in from the recent Club 7s National Championships to make tonight's extended 36-man roster.

As a whole, Selection Camp was modeled much like many mainstream American sport combines. Athletes participated in training sessions with national team staff, had performance metrics measured by STATS GPS technology and even built player profiles that indicated both athletic and academic goals.

The combination of training and interaction between coaches and players, as well as players and their peers, allowed participants of selection camp to build relationships that can ultimately foster postgraduation opportunities.

Having concluded the 2018 Men's Collegiate All-American Selection camp with momentum, the All-Americans will travel home tomorrow having gained much from the program. And, though camp may have ended, the All-Americans have much to look forward to as national team coaches begin evaluations for upcoming developmental and national team tours.
