Pacific North Recap: Undefeated Records Fall

Top teams feeling the pressure from below

Women’s Division II:

Sacramento Amazons hosted San Francisco Golden Gate (SFGG) in a bid to remain unbeaten.  SFGG drew first blood, but that was the only points the visitors were able to muster as the Amazons raced to an 84-7 decisive victory behind #15 Kristin Shum’s 4 try day.

Boise United hosted Portland and the pigs were unable to find their first win, falling 19-10.  Oregon Sports Union D2 (ORSU D2) travelled to Bend as the Roughriders looked to put pressure on the top 2 teams.  ORSU D2 scored first, but was unable to sustain balanced attack.  Bend was too strong, winning 43-20.  Emerald City Mudhens travelled to Chuckanut Bay Geoducks and put on a dominating show, remaining undefeated and treating the hosts to a 79-0 clinic behind a 28-point individual effort of Flyhalf Rachel Manning.  Eugene Reign was unable to find their first win of the season hosting league-leading Budd Bay.  The Bandits only allowed a try as they stole their way to a 64-5 victory to remain on top of the standings.

Samurai Sportswear Pacific Rugby Premiership

Glendale Merlins D1 hosted Santa Monica Dolphins in an important game for both teams.  The slight favorites, Santa Monica had a late push to come within 2 points, but it was Glendale that finished the game on top 43-37.  Old Mission Beach Athletic (OMBAC) was unable to find the answer for Belmont Shore Rugby falling on the road 45-15, while Life West held their top spot as the Gladiators gave San Francisco Golden Gate (SFGG) yet another loss, 53-36.

Men’s Division II:

Olympic Club Rugby was able to find the answers against Santa Rosa Rugby, but it took an entire match.  Santa Rosa held a 10-point lead on the visiting Olympic Club on 2 separate occasions, despite a yellow card in the first half.  Olympic Club would score the go-ahead try with 10 minutes left in the game and hold on for the needed victory and Santa Monica’s first loss, 33-31.  Diablo Olde Gaels hosted Vacaville Old Dogs and despite a sluggish start, trailing 14-5 at one point, Diablo bounced back and corralled the Dogs 53-33.  Life West Gladiators D2 and San Francisco Golden Gate D2 (SFGG D2) traded the lead a couple times and Life West would find themselves suddenly down by 3 in the waning moments of the match.  A converted try with 4 minutes left would help the Gladiators secure the 24-20 triumph.  San Jose Seahawks easily handled the still winless hosts Bay Area Baracus 49-14.

Men’s Division III:

San Joaquin-Stanislaus Rugby held their home turf against Fresno Rugby, 47-17 while Redwood Empire fell at home to Olympic Club Rugby D3 33-22.  Berkeley Rugby blanked Silicon Valley Rugby 38-0 while Napa Valley Rugby narrowly defeated Google Rugby 28-27.

Bay Area Baracus B upset San Jose D3 handing the Seahawks their first loss 52-41.  Jesters Rugby had the last laugh with 2 yellow cards in the last 6 minutes and a 101-7 victory over visiting San Francisco Golden Gate D3 (SFGG D3).  Diablo Olde Gaels D3 found themselves down 22-19 at the half against Mendocino before collecting themselves and breaking the Steam Donkeys 64-29.  Meanwhile, Reno Zephyrs travelled to San Francisco and cleared the fog 31-19.

Bend Roughriders hosted Boise United D3 and lost 62-26, while Budd Bay Buffaloes Handled Seattle Quake 69-40, despite a too-little, too-late push by the Quake.
