Classic Eagles

2013 was no exception to the Classic Eagles annual campaign to the island of Bermuda. In their opening match of the tournament, the Classic Eagles stunned the reigning champions, Australia, by beating them 15-12. Try scorers Michael Harvey and Simon Dogbe delighted the crowds with their tenacious efforts as they crossed the line off well worked moves by the remainder of the Classic Eagles team. Paul Holmes was solid with his kicking and ensured the nail in the coffin for the Australians when he slotted a penalty conversion in the dying minutes of the game.

A tougher opponent in South Africa, stopped the determined Classics in their charge for the championship. A 47-7 victory over the red, white and blue saw South Africa eventually go on to win the tournament but not before they had endured a gutsy performance by the Classic Eagles who refused to give up and kept the South African Legends on their toes until the final whistle. Paul Emerick was the lone try scorer for the Classics while Sammy Gonzalez was able to convert the try to ensure that the Classics did not go pointless.

The Classics will continue with their efforts to grow the sport as we move into 2014 when a number of exciting events and activities are planned. As with their on-field determination, the Classics will tackle the task of growing the sport of rugby wherever the opportunity allows and give back to the game that has given them so much.
