Dan Payne, CEO

Dan Payne assumed the role as Chief Executive Officer at USA Rugby in August of 2016. Dan brings an attractive range of experience and skills to the position. He has experience in many levels of the game as a national team player and coach, as a university coach and athletic director, and as a club player and administrator.

Payne was born in Victor, New York and became an NCAA Division 1 All-American wrestler in college, later earning a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. Following time wrestling internationally, Payne began his rugby playing career with Old Blue of New York before moving to San Diego, CA and joining Old Mission Beach Athletic Club.

Payne would go on to play Flanker and Number 8 for the USA Rugby Men's Eagles during the 2007 Rugby World Cup and later served as an Assistant Coach for the Eagles under Eddie O'Sullivan through the 2011 Rugby World Cup and as Forwards Coach under Mike Tolkin prior to beginning his career in university athletics.

Payne joins USA Rugby after leaving Life University where he orchestrated the development and implementation of a plan that expanded the department from 5 to 16 varsity sports and added more than 200 student-athletes during his 5-year tenure.

"I am inspired and passionate about developing and implementing plans that are centered around growth and positive energy, regardless of the endeavor. To stay rugby in America and the growth potential in front of us inspires me daily would be an understatement," said Payne.
