Women's Sevens bring down Spain, 21-14

PARIS, FRA - The Women's Eagles Sevens have made it interesting so far in France, and we as fans couldn't love it more. With an experienced Spanish squad taking the field in match two of Pool play, Captain Nicole Heavirland played the hero with a try at the death, awarding the US a 21-14 win.

Spain came out with a fury having been shut out by France in the first match, but a brilliant kickoff from Alev Kelter gave the US first possession. Great ball movement looked to have points in the end, but a pass forward to Ryan Carlisle turned possession over, deep in the Spanish end. Lauren Doyle would retain the drive however, and with a perfect dummy pass to Kelter, was able to draw defenders and run it in under the posts. On the ensuing drive, a miss-kick from Spain is picked up and dished to Kelter for a run-away try. Spain was able to gather their attack and dot-down for points before the half.

United States goes into the half up 14-7.

The second half would start with a player advantage to Spain as Kelter picked up a yellow card. The US almost hung on to keep points off the board during the power play, but Captain Barbara Pla was able to find a gap and knot up the score at 14 a side.

Back and fourth play lead the game to zeros on the clock as fans watched and wondered who would find that last opening and win it at the buzzer. US Captain, Nicole Heavirland wouldn't quite find an opening per se, but did jump on a loose ball out of the Spanish maul to run it through for the win. It hasn't come easy, but the Women's Sevens are 2-0 in Pool C so far with undefeated host France up next at 3:18pmET LIVE on FloRugby.
