Men's Sevens Cruise Past Spain

PARIS, FRA. - One more down, one more to go. With the past in the rear and their eyes up ahead, the Men's Eagles Sevens used the second half of the 5th Place Semifinal to cruise past Spain and seal a 28-7 victory. Hungry to clinch the 13 points up for grabs, the United States now look ahead to one final, competitive battle against Fiji in the 5th Place Final. The match kicks off at 12:07 PM ET, LIVE on ESPN+.

A penalty on USA immediately followed the kickoff, allowing Spain to win the ensuing scrum and threaten heavily on the U.S. side. The Eagles' opponent spent much of the first several minutes deep in American territory, flirting dangerously with favorable pitch position but unable to put one over.

A few messy offloads followed, after which USA won a scrum and passed to Carlin Isles who put the squad on the map, 7-0. Spain finally broke open with Francisco Hernandez to tie the game a bit after, but the excitement would be short lived.

The Spanish would not see themselves cross the tryline again in the match, leaving the second half of play to be completely dominated by the United States.

Almost immediately, Malon Al had a sure open run, taking it just about all the way before a tackle and penalty turned the ball back over to Spain. Jiboori stayed down on the field after the tackle, however, and after a brief evaluation from medics, walked off to be replaced by Martin Iosefo.

Another loose pass proved to be to the detriment of the Spanish pack and USA used the opportunity to push momentum entirely on their side.

Three comfortable U.S. tries would follow off the hands of Martin IosefoBrett Thompson on a mid-field breakaway and Stephen Tomasin to seal the win, 28-7.

The United States now move to the 5th Place Final against Fiji at 12:07 PM ET, LIVE on ESPN+.
