Abby Gustaitis began playing rugby in 2010 at the University of Maryland after ending a promising career as a varsity women’s basketball player during high school. In college she earned All-American honors, after which she went on to play senior club rugby with Northern Virginia Women's Rugby.

From 2015-16, Gustaitis was a resident at the Olympic Training Site in Chula Vista, CA. In 2016 she captained Scion Rugby and helped them win a Club 7s National Championship. That same year, she officially debuted with the Women's National Team (15s), claiming a selection for the Women's Rugby World Cup 2017 the following year and helping the United States finish in fourth-place.

Months later, Gustaitis made her HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series debut at the 2017 Dubai Sevens. There, she helped the Women's Sevens win Silver adding a Bronze finish later that year for the first time the program has medaled twice in one season.

Gustaitis has a Bachelors Degree in Physiology and Neurobiology.
