Hanco Germishuys was born in in South Africa but moved to Nebraska with his father in 2004. He began playing club rugby in the United States for West Omaha and was eventually selected to play for the Nebraska All Star Team. In High School, Germishuys was a four-time High School All-American and even traveled with his team to the USA Sevens Invitational.

Germishuys also played for USA Rugby U18s, serving as captain for Team USA's Youth Olympic squad and joining the Men's Junior All-Americans (U20s) in the 2014 Junior World Rugby Trophy.

In 2015, Germishuys signed a four-month contract with Gloucester Rugby Academy, continuing his age-grade career in 2016 as a Captain for USA during the Men's U20s World Rugby Trophy.

Later that year, Germishuys earned his first cap with the Men's Eagles during their 2016 Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) match against Brazil. In 2018, he rejoined the Men's National Team at the Americas Rugby Championship, helping the squad move to 5-0 and clinch a historic second consecutive title in the tournament.
